Faith Cometh by Hearing to Non Believers
This study came to me a little while after the fig study. I was once again at work and a couple people came into the lab and started a discussion about the Word of God. In the midst of this conversation another person came in and turned, looked straight at me and said he didn't believe in God that he was an athiest. That struck curiosity in me and it didn't seem to offend him to answer my questions. Later, we talked out on the floor where he worked and then I knew this was my next study God was leading me into.
After I realized this I started hearing and seeing things much like when you get another car you didn't realize how many of that same exact car was in your own town. LOL!!! One Sunday, I was listening to Pastor Trayler and he was doing a chapter study in Revelations about the seven churches. This is where I had to rewrite the beginning of this study. This new information flowed right into where this study was going. Oh, how I love when he wants to me to see and understand things in a whole new way. Please enjoy and feel free to add questions and comments below....
In Revelations 2:7 John says, "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." This is repeated to the seven churches in the next few chapters. He was giving each an opportunity to know what they have done right and wrong. Even, today he gives everyone this same opportunity. There are some who let the Word of God just pass through their ears not allowing themselves to receive the message while there are others who actually listen and seek for understanding. These are the ones who receive the gift of faith from Romans 10:17 so then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. When you really hear the message it changes you inside out. It leaves a hunger that you seek to quench.

One might ask, What is the Word of God? We learn what the Word is in John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2) The same was in the beginning with God. 3) All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. 4) In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5) And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 14) The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us ( and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Jesus is the Word made flesh. Jesus enlightens spiritually and intellectually to all who hear His gospel by imparting a measure of grace and understanding in order that they may freely choose to accept or reject the message. In other words Jesus makes the gospel clearer to those having difficulty understanding by explaining and breaking down the word most often in his teachings by parables which was experience in their everyday life situations.
In the Parable of the Sower found in Matthew 13: Jesus taught that a farmer went out and sow his seed, as he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered, because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop-a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. "Whoever has ears, let them hear?"
After speaking to the people his disciples came to him wondering why he speaks to the people in these parables. Jesus told them they were blessed, because they see and hear him in person. (Later after the resurrection he again says to them in John 20:29 Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou has believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.) Then Jesus went on to explain to them. When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. But the seed falling on good soil referes to someone who hears the word and understands it; (They desire it and seek for more). This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."
For the word to hit the person with the good soil means what Ephesians 1:13 says, "In who ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; and in John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his (Jesus) name: These verses depicts clearly how saving faith is both the act of a single instant and an ongoing attitude of a lifetime: 1) to become a child of God, one must "receive" (Greek, elabon, from lambano) Christ. The aorist (past) tense here denotes a definite act of faith. 2) Following the act of faith, there must be a continual action of believing. True faith continues after the initial act of accepting Christ.
Salvation is for everyone because the Word says in Romans 3:23 for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Then in Romans 6:23 for the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Sin causes death but Jesus bought us with a price as we learn in 1 Corinthians 6:20 and it continues to say, "Therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." I don't know of anyone who has showed a greater love as he was our perfect example. In John 15:13 says, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." He has to lay down his life as was told in John 3:14 and as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up (crucified) that whosever believeth in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Prior to turning to Christ, people are in their primary nature; born in flesh, sinners who are spiritually dead, and who are incapable of obeying and pleasing God. They find pleasure in their sin and love darkness not realizing the bondage they are held in. Those who disbelieve do so because, on some level, they do not want to believe. Paul writes that when believing happens, it is through hearing what the Lord says "through the Word of Christ." Paul seeming to refer to the chain of steps occurring to bring a person to the point of calling on the Lord. Those who hear it have the opportunity to believe. Those who believe and call on the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:13).
How does one turn to Christ? Jesus himself spoke with an educated man on such things. He was a Pharissee named Nicodemus who had more questions after hearing the Word from Jesus himself. Jesus met with him at night in John 3. In verse 3 Jesus said, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus didn't quite understand and asked, how can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again.
If you look at where you always been then you will die believing what you always was. Denying your destiny. Denying greater things in this life and the one after.
Thank you for stopping bye and giving your time to study on faith. God bless.
